Adjustments & Manipulation

Adjustments, also known as joint manipulations, refer to the corrective movements performed upon the spinal vertebrae.  The objective of these movements is to restore normal function which can be lost for a variety of reasons:  during daily activities, from trauma such as a fall or car accident and from the normal aging process.

Improper vertebral function has an overall systemic effect upon one's muscles and nerves.  Without proper joint movement, one cannot function at peak performance.

An adjustment is often a pressure from the chiropractor utilizing the hands or an instrument to restore vertebral motion. This happens with a quick movement that usually causes no discomfort.  A noise similar to cracking one’s knuckles may be heard.  This is referred to as joint cavitation, a release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen from the joint.

Overall, adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level.  When the body is in its optimum alignment, it responds and functions as it should.
